3月30日 Graduation BanquetThis last Saturday was one more reminder of just how close we are to graduating - our ECE Graduation Banquet! In the midst of all our long hours spent at school and doing assignments and reports, we were reminded what life is all about - Good food and good people. While some may disagree about the Banquet's "good food" part (^.^) , it was nice to see everyone all dolled up and off school grounds.
Yayyy,... graduating in one month!!!
Check out the pictures I posted of the banquet! ^.^
Hmm... for some reason the pictures are somwhat distorted =( ... in the most unfortunate places too! Ask me if you want the originals.... 2月18日 A long overdue update...Pictures from Andriy's and my trip over Christmas! We first went around Tokyo, then Hakone to see Mt. Fuji, then to Himeji Castle, Osaka and Kyoto. Then we took off to see my good friend Alvin ^.^ in Singapore! Thanks so much Alvin for your utmost hospitality and for bringing us to places we wouldn't have dare gone ourselves! We took the overnight train to Kuala Lumpur and saw the Twin Towers and Chinatown - what an amazing city! We then took off to Hong Kong where we met up with Clair and Ben ^.^ Thanks guys for showing us around for the best places to shop and eat!
9月28日 No more Internet for me! :(Hey guys... Just to let you know, after September 30th, I'll have no more internet at home!! :((( My roommates who I'm sharing the internet with now are moving out.... and this whole Japan internet stuff still confuses me - since I"m only here for another 2.5 months, signing up for a phone line, ADSL company, and ISP seems like so much trouble!! i.e. applications in Japanese, installations during the work-day.... And, waiting for a couple months for the fibre-optic internet just isn't worth it.. Anyone have any ideas on how I can get internet again? through cell-phone? But without signing up for a year-contract, or paying over $100 a month..... grrrrrrrrrrrrr hehe, well I guess I'll have to learn how to survive without internet! Anyhow, see you guys later!! In the meantime, check out my fellow Yamatake Coworker Adam's blog ... Most of my Japan adventures rely on his superly-awesome Japanese language and survival skills :D AND, his blog is so comprehensive, I don't need to write my own :) (.. sorry Adam if you're reading this) http://adamwjapan.blogspot.com/ Here's some pictures we took from the past couple weeks.... I had to steal pictures off other people's sites to get good photoes heheh (grrr, stupid DAISO batteries....)
Hope you guys are all taking care!
8月26日 This weekend........This weekend my coworkers and some other interns and I are attempting to climb Mount Fuji!!!!
Yayyyy.... hope for nice weather, clear sky, and full moon!
Talk to you guys when I get back...... 8月20日 Shikoku Trip for Obon Week VacationVacation is soooo nice!!
Hi everyone.... Tadaima! I posted some pics from my trip.. Here's some stats:
Total Distance by Local Train: ~1850km
Total Time on Local Train: 50+hours
So on the first day, it took us about 800 km, 8 transfers, one bus ride, 18 hours, and one not-so-comfortable sleep on the train floor to get to our hostel in Tokushima. But, it only cost us 2300yen, plus a 230yen bus ticket.. Hmm, is it worth it? Well it was definitely an experience..
So much time was spent travelling - but the scenery was always so pretty! Especially on the ferry rides...
Hmm, so I posted some pics from my trip.. We saw lots of temples, shrines, a few castles, beaches... Many rice paddies! And of course, Hiroshima... It was really quite a sobering experience. Anyone who wants to go.. I'd definitely recommend it.. The Hiroshima Atomic Bomb Dome, the A-bomb Memorial Mound, within which is the ashes of some 70,000 victims of the A-bomb (I think almost 200,000 died from the bomb).
But Hiroshima city itself is actually a really nice city - to me, it looks more modern than most of Tokyo.. and it has better Okonomiyaki too!
Okay, well that's all for now! Back to work in a couple of days... I think I need a longer break........... !
8月9日 VACATION!!! Wish me luck!!Aikz, off I go to our big vacation trip tomorrow!!
In case I don't make it back alive, to everyone - Thanks for being such great friends --- Everyone! hehe, no matter how long it's been since we've talked... no matter how short of a period we've known each other...
Zombie trains, here I come! I'll be back on the 18th, hopefully!
8月6日 Life in the Land of the Rising SunHi y'all...
Hmm, I'm not sure quite what I shall blog about... nor if anyone will read this.. (please write your comments if you do!!), but I suppose if anyone back home feels like keeping in touch -- please do!! I do like reading other people's blogs - it's great to know what other people are up to!
I've been in Japan for just over two months now, and really, overall, it's been such an awesome experience and I am so grateful to be here! Although, it can get quite lonely in a place where language is such a big barrier, and Japan for me is somewhat a love-hate relationship. I mean one day, you're walking around the city, nodding to random nice people, doing normal Japanese things, and it's starting to feel like a sort of home. Then one day comes when you hit that language barrier so hard, you realize just how helpless you are... And that that little kid sitting next to you in the bus, with the bowl cut and swinging his legs around mindlessly, can survive better than you. Haha, oh well, such is life in Japan as a foreigner. I gotta learn more Japanese.!
If anyone wants to try living in Japan, I definitely would recommend it!
So.. what else... I'm learning a lot about myself, some which I was happier off not knowing haha... I'm quite a random person. I.e. I should have planned my Long Obon-holiday trip much earlier! Haha, right now, we're planning on going over to Shikoku island, but since every mode of transportation within our not-too-modest budget is already packed full, we're taking our chances on getting on a free-seat night train... then making about 6 or 7 transfers, taking 15.5 hrs, and travelling 750km. Sounds like fun!!!! hahaha we'll see... I still have to find a way back! Probably by myself too.... I hope I'll still be alive........
Okay, long enough post. I hope everyone is doing well wherever you guys are..... drop me a line sometimes and let me know how you are doing!
Cool thing about Japan -- their super expensive, but really nicely wrapped watermelons! Square watermelons! heheh
Until next time!
